A Home of Our Own Updates

Progress on A Home of Our Own

We’re excited to share the latest progress on A Home of Our Own! Construction continues, and the building is literally taking shape from the ground up.

What’s Been Accomplished

The Tri-Construction/Watson-Forsberg team has been busy establishing a solid foundation for the future. The first major steps involved preparing the building site by removing old soil and bringing in clean, stable fill material. This ensures we’re building on the strongest possible ground.

To further strengthen the foundation, specialized aggregate piers have been installed deep into the earth. Think of these as underground pillars that help distribute the building’s weight evenly and prevent any settling over time. Once this critical stabilization work is complete, workers will pour the concrete slab that will serve as the ground floor of our new facility.

What’s Coming Next

Over the next month, you’ll start to see the building rise above ground level. Concrete strip footings—the foundation walls that will support the structure—will be put in place. Soon after, you’ll notice steel reinforcing bars (rebar) being positioned, followed by the installation of steel columns that will form the building’s skeleton.

This is an exciting phase where the project transforms from underground prep work to visible construction that shows the true scale and promise of what is being built.

We were so thrilled to collaborate with the Minnesota Star Tribune on a story about youth homelessness in our region.
