Recently, youth at Brooklyn Avenues spent time creating self-love jars, pulling affirmation cards, writing a gratitude list, and celebrating the new year. While the youth contemplated love and gratitude, they ate snacks and later watched movies together after the staff cooked a delicious meal to share.
In keeping with the theme of love and shared affirmation, youth at Avenues enjoyed special Valentine’s Day festivities. At Minneapolis Avenues, lunch featured a classic favorite Valentine’s spread of roast beef, loaded baked potatoes, fresh tossed salad and crispy fried shrimp. “Marry Me Chicken,” a popular TikTok recipe requested by the youth, was on the menu at Brooklyn Avenues with sides of garlic cheesy bread and a healthy build your own salad. Strawberry shortcakes, Valentine cookies for youth to decorate and chewy chocolate brownies rounded out the culinary delights! Our friends at The Innovative Dance Event and The Minnesota Association for Justice added a heartfelt personal touch by supplying treats and gift cards for the youth!
Food insecurity often impacts youth experiencing homelessness. At Avenues for Youth, nutritious meals are served 3 times a day, every day. Youth become successful through learning and practicing life skills including cooking and nutrition. Special occasion meals provide an opportunity to try new recipes, honor traditions and celebrate cultures.
To the staff and donors who make these special days feel extra special, THANK YOU! Our hearts are full! Youth at Avenues definitely feel and share your love!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Avenues for Youth!
